| Riassunto: | In rural areas, especially women depends informal financial sources a lot. It is mainly because
these women find much difficulty in dealing with formal financial institutions and also they are
not much aware services offered by formal financial institutions. This have led to the growth of
informal financial practices to a great extend. But through microfinance programs and related
activities women are getting much knowledge about formal financial institutions and their
practices. Thus through this study we are analyzing whether microfinance programs have made
any significant shift by women, from informal to formal financial sources for accessing credit
facilities. The data as collected from 220 microfinance beneficiaries of microfinance services of
leading MFI’s operating in Kerala state. The sample was selected by convenience sampling. The
results from the study indicates that after joining microfinance programs women dependency on
informal financial sources is decreased to great extend. It was found that there is a change in
women’s preference for formal and informal financial sources after participating in microfinance
programs. |
