This sector provides the solution to migration problems, economic inequality, unemployment, underemployment and poverty in rural areas. This paper is an attempt to analyse the trends and issues of ―Rural Non-Farm Employment‖ in India on the basis of NSSO data. The study reveals that the rural workforce is gradually shifting from the farm sector to non-farm sector and it may partially be agricultural growth led and partially distress-driven. The worker population ratio for males is greater than females. In rural areas there is a decrease in the self-employed male workers, whereas an increase in casual labour and unemployment rate is more than the urban areas. For the economic and social development of rural people the development of rural areas is very essential. For this there is at great need for the development of the Rural Non-Farm Sector along with agriculture growth in that area. We are required to frame such policies which will enhance employment opportunities in the Rural Non-Farm Sector. The present study has been divided into four sections. The first section highlights the importance of RNFS. The second section deals with methodology of study with review of literature. The third section deals with some important issues and RNFE in India and the last section concludes the study with some important suggestions. | ||
