Description
Summary:Tracing the economic history of the country over various political regimes to obtain an overview of the Indian economy and plot a path for future is the purview of the present paper. The salient features of economic reforms and subsequent fall-out give an incisive analysis of the economic trends since independence. The revolutionary ideas borrowed from the economies of the other nations and superimposed on the Indian scenario were experimented by various governments. Subsequently, the reformatory stage saw the pro-business reforms and the introduction of two historically significant initiatives: (i) setting up of the three tier democracy by bringing in the 73ed and 74th Constitutional Amendments, and (ii) initializing of Sam Pitroda’s setting up of the Centre for Development of Telematics (CDOT). The paper endeavours to capture the contemporaneous dynamics of the country’s economic advancement and share a vision for the future.
