Historical and cultural context.'''
Sri Appayya Dikshita lived during a period of great cultural and intellectual efflorescence in South India, roughly corresponding to the European Renaissance. He was a contemporary of Shakespeare. The Vijayanagar Empire and nearby principalities like Vellore, Karvetnagar, and Chittoor provided political stability and patronage, encouraging a flourishing of Hindu philosophy, art, and literature.
