Mortimer J. Adler

Adler while presiding over the Center for the Study of The Great Ideas Mortimer Jerome Adler (; December 28, 1902 – June 28, 2001) was an American philosopher, educator, encyclopedist, author, and lay theologian. His philosophical work was situated within the Aristotelian and Thomistic traditions. Adler taught at Columbia University and the University of Chicago, served as chairman of the board of editors of ''Encyclopædia Britannica'', and founded the Institute for Philosophical Research.
