| Summary: | As India continues to get strongly integrated with the new economy riding the
waves of globalization, the retail sector is bound to take big leaps in the years to come.
India is a rising star at the beginning of a growth cycle, with consumer spending
increasing at a strong rate, and people seeking and demanding a better quality of life. The
liberalized market environment is providing a revolutionary change in the retail market in
India. The emergence of organized retailing in the retail market scene is very significant
in the recent past. Organized retailing is witness a wave of players entering the industry.
The entry of foreign players will not only affect the ownership, but also change the basics
of business. Indian’s vast middle class and its almost untapped retail industry are key
attractions for global retail giants wanting to enter the newer market. The paper highlights
various problems of e-tailing in Kerala such as absence of personalization, issues in customer
service and distribution, handling returns, off line presence, language problems, issues in mode
of payment, security issue, issues in portal design and legal issues. To ensure a positive
outcome, attention to the factors identified in the suggested framework is important for
the effective functioning of the e-tailing. If this study provokes the people concerned to
take some positive measures in order to improve it, the researchers will feel amply
rewarded. |
