Many ICT enabled development interventions are in existence across the country, however information kiosks are found to be most effective for service delivery.Kiosks are totally touch screen driven interactive devices with large icons displaying limited data supported by graphics and animations. Local language is used though the system has multilingual capability and has simple and clear navigation paths. In Kerala the touch screen kiosk was introduced through the project, ‘Content development for Agri kiosk and networking through mobile SMS’ which was initiated by Department of Agricultural Extension, College of Agriculture Vellayani. The content development for the kiosk was carried out through different workshops and trainings and twelve major cultivated crops like coconut, banana, rice etc. were selected for content development in consultation with the Agricultural scientists of College of Agriculture, Vellayani. The data about different aspects of crops were collected both in English and Malayalam and transferred into the FLASH software with the help of data enablers. The completed software was installed in the kiosks which were placed in 14 districts of Kerala and also in the four agricultural marketing outlets. A feedback study was conducted using thirty respondents each from four districts of Kerala, which shows that majority of the farmers had favorable attitude towards Kiosk. Most of them had utilized the Malayalam version of the kiosk content and perception of farmers towards kiosk was positively correlated with information dissemination ways, awareness source and effectiveness. Hence the study shows that Agri kiosk is an interactive platform for dissemination of new technologies and it act as a harbinger towards innovation dissemination. | ||
