Crynodeb:Educational literature has been discussing stress and strain among adolescents and academic stress is still a buzz word in academic circles. Students face many problems such as excessive school work, exam anxiety, over expectation of family members, less support from family, non cooperation from teachers and classmates, personal inadequacy and similar hampers in their academic life. which suppress their academic and personal performance. Students coming from deprived classes also face these problems in addition to their familial and personal problems. The study was conducted to compare the academic stress of general and scheduled caste/scheduled tribe students at secondary school level of Kerala. The second objective of the study was to compare the level of academic stressors among the two categories. An academic stress scale was developed by the researchers. The result indicated that there was no significant difference between the academic stress experienced by general and SC/ST students and that personal stress or was more intensive among general category students and familial stress or was the major distracter in the academic life of SC/ST students.
