Summary: | Conflicts occurring at the local level
mostly on the issues that affect every-
day life of people have become political
in nature due to increasing politicization
of society. Like other countries, local
justice of Nepal is rest with community
driven judiciary process under the
auspicious of local government structure.
The setting of local dispute resolution
in rural Nepal takes in the traditional
process of Village Development
Committee. Unfortunately, Village
Development Committee, the ancient local
bench of Nepal does not inherit an
effective criminal court to administer trial
and punishment on individuals
autonomously and resulting in mounting
local disputes. It is also apparent that,
success of local conflict management
through permissible approach does not
transpire itself as a vibrant body to
ensure fair play across the level; rather
it has been paralyzed due to undue
influence of the vested quarters in the
