Summary: | In spite of remarkable advancements in
various fields, there are other areas
where India is lagging as a nation. About
two thirds of India’s people live in rural
areas, and almost of them are poor. A
major cause of poverty among rural
people in India is lack of access to
productive assets and financial
resources. The economic advancement
made by the country has not yet seeped
into the rural backward regions. The
planning process should result in
policies and action plans, which enable
backward regions to overcome the
disadvantages they face and achieve a
state of parity with the mainstream
regions in the shortest possible time. The
concerns for poverty alleviation should
be achieved through meaningful
employment policies as employment is a
key instrument to eradicate poverty. |
