The existence of the ANMs and other nursing professionals contributes much to the health system in India. NRHM introduced larger women workforce as Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) highlights the importance of women workforce in health in India. There is a differential job allocation for men and women workers in health sector. Studies show ANMs are more burdened compared to their male counterparts in terms of the work load. The male Health Supervisors and other multipurpose workers (men) have lesser responsibility compared to that of Nurses in general. In general, in addition to the routine activities such as immunization, family planning, and other services, they are also burdened with a large amount of work in terms of report writing and attending meetings. These additional responsibilities burden the Nursing workforce. Further to the above, they are also engaged in various national programs. There are other factors such as transfers and postings, poor working conditions and so on adds more load to their work. The present study is trying to address some of these problems. The study proposes to study the workload among the nurses in India with specific reference to Kerala. | ||
