The number of elderly is 77 million in 2001 but is expected to cross 100 million in 2013 and 177 million by the year 2025. Among the Indian States, Kerala has the largest proportion of elderly population and the growth rate among the aged is increasing higher and higher. Kerala has the largest number of old age homes in India. Old age homes are the last resort for the aged. The study has been conducted in two districts, Alappuzha and Kottayam of Kerala state. . The sample size is 210 and it is taken from 30 Old Age homes.
