Even though literature on employee engagement has blossomed progressively over the past two decades, there is a relative shortage of empirical studies in this area, especially in the Indian context. The objective of the present study is to extend the research on the relationship between perceived supervisor support and job satisfaction by examining the mediating role of employee engagement. Respondents to the survey were 177 employees working in three service sector organisations in central Kerala. Correlation and regression analyses were used to test the research hypotheses. Specifically Baron and Kenny’s method was used for testing the hypotheses of mediation. Results indicate that significant relationship exists between perceived supervisor support and employee engagement, perceived supervisor support and job satisfaction and employee engagement and job satisfaction. Employee engagement was found to partially mediate the relationship between perceived supervisor support and job satisfaction. This study provides insight into the influence of perceived supervisor support and employee engagement on job satisfaction. An important contribution of this paper is positioning employee engagement as a means through which organisational resources are linked to employee outcomes. | ||
