Resumo:This thesis is an analysis of the political aspects of agrarian reform in the South Indian state of Kerala. The author examines the agrarian,n social structure, the historical development of the Communist parties in Kerala, and the .Communist support base. The author also compares three phases of agrarian reform in the state , attempting to explain the class basis of agrarian reform in Kerala by focusing on the agrarian programme of the ruling coalition in 1957,1963, and 1969. The thesis concludes that there has been a wide gap between the ideology and programme of agrarian reform for the most part, in Kerala, and its legislative and administrative implementation. The author finds that agrarian reform, for the most part, has not led to any, substantial change in the structure of rural society in Kerala
