But in spite of these initiatives of Kerala government, our destinations lacks cleanliness. The present study tries to find out the satisfaction of tourists on major destination attributes and also tries to find out how destination cleanliness affects overall satisfaction of the tourists. The study also tries to understand the present role of government authorities in ensuring destination cleanliness. The study uses both exploratory and conclusive research designs. The primary data was collected from two samples, one is tourists and the other is Government authorities. The first sample of data was collected from 100 tourists (50 domestic and 50 foreign tourists) who visited Fort Kochi, Ernakulam district, Kerala at the time of data collection. The convenient sampling method was used to collect data. Second sample data was collected from the concerned government authorities who are in charge of ensuring destination cleanliness. Interview schedule was used to collect data. For that the researcher approached Municipality office of Fort Kochi and as per their suggestion data was collected from Health section of Fort Kochi Municipality and from tourism department at Fort Kochi. The result of the study shows that the tourists were satisfied with all the five attributes of Kerala except the attribute “Cleanliness of the destination”. The study clearly points out the major problems at Fort Kochi regarding the cleanliness. It explains the expectation of tourists and the present efforts of government authorities in the area of cleanliness at Fort Kochi. | ||
