Among the marginalized groups, women are the most affected in all spheres. But, developed nations have enacted legislation to liberate women and they enjoy parity with men in the socio-economic and political streams. But the scenario in developing countries is different. This paper begins with a conceptual framework and examines the extent and nature of political empowerment of women in developing societies. The study examines various constraints for political empowerment in developing societies and incorporates suggestions such as political socialization among women especially in rural areas, awareness building measures at the grassroots level and the need for the advancement of education for the emergence of a vibrant middle class. | ||
