The state occupies at the first place regarding the prevalence of diabetes too, a negative welfare indicator along with positive indicators among the Indian states. Kerala may best be described as the ‘diabetes capital of India’, which in turn has serious welfare and growth implications. The state is required to have overcome the presence of a group of unhealthy aging population through increased awareness programmes and progressive state policies. The unique Kerala model needs to be sustained for long.
