Disasters are becoming a continuing mechanism which affects regularly in one or other part of the world. No Nation is free from its drastic impacts as environmental degradation is gaining momentum in all parts of the world. Effective Mechanism run by the governing apparatus is essential in dealing with the natural disasters as it would help in reducing the impact of the crisis. From UN to local self-governing institutions much importance is been given to the notion of disaster management. This article attempts to evaluate the effectiveness of Central/State mechanisms in carrying out the rescue and relief operations during Kerala floods 2018 September which has created massive loss of human life and finance in the state. Jeffersonian theory of disaster management is used to evaluate the effectiveness of the government apparatus to deal with the stipulated crisis
