Summary:Borders across the world in general, and South Asia in particular, have always been sources of conflicts and confrontations. Being diverse in religion, language, culture, etc. the nature of South Asian borders is unique. The fundamental conflict in the region is the result of post-colonial distinct identities; as in most cases, the South Asian borders are illogical, arbitrary and ill defined. The imposing of the Radcliffe Line, which divided India and Pakistan, has an intriguing role to play here. The post-partition history of India-Pakistan relations has been marred by various violent conflicts which have adversely affected the lives of people living in border areas in Indian Punjab.
