520 |a There are few researchers who have explored the parenting stress discrepancies of unmarried and married mothers. In this research, psychological, sociological, financial distress and disturbances of unmarried mothers as ascertained through their choices are studied. Married and unmarried mothers were asked to fill out self-reported questionnaires (Korean Parenting Stress Index, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory-Korean, Everyday Life Stressors) to measure whether or not single participants experience higher levels of stress. It is also expected that some of the stressors are adversely correlated to parenting stress. The best practices of child and/or single mother welfare support systems from developed countries are analyzed as well, as a means of providing potential policy implications in a Korean context. This research was supported by the SRC Research Center for Women’s Diseases of Sookmyung Women’s University.
