It includes the difficulties slum families face in accessing public schemes and services. CDS is endeavoring to achieve some measure of economic independence to community members through their own efforts. It was able to identify the needs of people belonging to all the age groups in the community and has been supportive in upgrading the income-generating activities in the community along with generating awareness on the issues related to life skills. It has been very effective in empowering the women of slums by involving them to participate as CDS functionaries. It has helped the majority of slum dwellers to generate self-employment and in becoming self-reliant by imparting them with vocational skills like cutting and tailoring, computer courses, beauty parlur course, candle-making, etc. It has also provided economic benefits to slum dwellers by helping them to take loans through SJSRY. The CDS has helped in the improvement of quality of life, promotion of communication skills, increasing awareness level and in spread of education. The CDS especially focuses on the needs of people who belong to below the poverty line. The results of the study will help the community development practitioners to have insights into the community development practices.
