Sumari:In this paper we have examined the disparities of Human Development among Indian States. For identifying similarity among states, we have used Squared Euclidean Dissimilarity Index and, found that Kerala followed by Madhya Pradesh is the most dissimilar state from others and South Indian States perform better in terms of human development than the rest of India. North Indian states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Orissa stand way apart from Kerala. For identifying the channels for these disparities, we have looked at at input variables like per capita net domestic product, public expenditure on the social sector as well as accessibility to education and health. Disparate situations exist in the case of these input variables and this is attributed to the dissimilarity of human development between the states. The Human development situation had improved during the nineties, nonetheless, there are still persistent these interstate disparities. It is also seen that human development among the states of India shows a tendency of converging over time.
